UROP Research Assistant

I was an assistant for an ongoing research prompt about the relationship between the funding of UN Peacekeeping Missions and the success of said missions. I got to apply my finance understanding to my political science interest through data analysis.

What I wish was different

Nothing. It was amazing. I just wish that I could continue to work with the professor I was under on this project until it is finished.

Advice

If you are going to be a research assistant, put time each day to do work, don't just assume you will find time to do it at nights, make a plan stick to it.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

June - August 2018 • Boulder, CO

What I liked

I liked everything about this experience! I learned a lot during that two month period and I was able to go out of my comfort zone and learn about different research techniques that I was not familiar with. I was able to work independently in a research project but I was still supervised by a graduate student, which allowed me to learn a lot about proper design of experiments. The faculty and students at University of Colorado Boulder in the Chemical and Biological Engineering department are extremely nice, helpful, and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable!

What I wish was different

I just wish that it would have been longer.

Advice

I would tell all undergraduate students interested in graduate school to apply to this experience or a similar one. It is very helpful and helps expose students to what the life of a researcher is really like.
