Cybersecurity Institute Intern

Cybersecurity Internships

Interns will work with the Director of the New Mexico Cybersecurity Center of Excellence and collaborate with Sandia National Laboratories.

Students will intern with the Cybersecurity Centers @ New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) working with Sandia National Laboratory Albuquerque on Tracer FIRE and on an evaluation of cybersecurity tools. Students will develop new and/or enhance existing scenarios for TracerFIRE including OT (Operational Technology) with energy production security themes that may involve nuclear power plants, and traditional power generation facilities. Specific threat scenarios will be defined by Sandia.





Student requirements:

 
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Preference to underrepresented minority students
  • Currently attending and enrolled full time (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Majoring in Computer Science, Computer Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or a very closely related field of study
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher
  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Junior or above
  • Students should have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of information security, computer architecture, and networking
  • Demonstrated knowledge of at least one or more programming languages
  • Ability to work with more than one operating system
  • Desired skills in network programming, system testing, virus and malicious code defense and basic cryptography
  • Desired skills in computer hardware, knowledge such as FPGA, VHDL, Low Level Programming
  • Desired skills in software tools such as IDA Pro, VMware, Wireshark
  • Desired skills in programming and scripting languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, Python, Ruby, PHP, SQL

Students may be required to work remotely due to Covid 19 restrictions but are currently expected to be required to work at NMT in Socorro, New Mexico. Students are expected to participate in events at Sandia National Laboratory later in the summer (travel between Socorro to Sandia will be covered).

Rates of pay are $23.90/hour for Juniors and higher depending for Senior or above.
