*TREC School Psychologist Intern
*Please Note: This position is only for those applicants going through the Take Root Employment Cooperative (TREC) program. All other applicants will not be considered at this time.
General Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to a licensed School Psychologist, the School Psychologist Intern provides a full range of school psychological services to children ages 0-21, including screening and assessment, designing remedial educational programs, and individual and group counseling. The School Psychologist Intern participates as a member of the education team to determine the student's eligibility for special services and evaluates learning environments to meet IEP/IFSP goals and objectives. Direct weekly supervision is provided by the school district licensed school psychologist and indirect supervision by a university instructor.
Essential Functions:
1. Provide counseling and consultation services for students individually, and in both large and small groups.
2. Measure the intellectual, social and emotional development of students, and interprets the results of psychological studies.
3. Identifies educational, behavioral disabilities, and collaborates in the planning of re-education and therapeutic programs.
4. Identifies exceptional students and collaborates in the planning of appropriate educational placement and programs.
5. Develops ways to facilitate the learning and adjustment of students.
6. Administers intellectual assessments, behavioral or adaptive assessments, gathers medical information and coordinates all necessary reports.
7. Assists teachers and administrators in understanding child behavior and intellectual, and personality differences as they apply to the individual student and the class.
8. Serves in a consultative capacity in curriculum planning.
9. Consults with individual students and/or families, thereby positive academic: behavioral change.
10. Encourages and initiates research, and helps utilize research findings for the solution of school problems and the student achievement.
11. Participates in meetings of multidisciplinary teams, and coordinates multidisciplinary team paperwork.
12. Attends Individual Educational Program (IEP) meetings, as necessary.
13. Participates in informal student staffing teams at schools.
14. Provides counseling as a related service as indicated in IEPs.
15. Ensures complete documentation of the psychologist report and the summary assessments for students.
16. Establishes beneficial relationships with students and staff based upon respect and rapport. Interacts positively with students, parents, co-workers, staff, volunteers and teacher interns.
17. Communicates current special education rules, regulations, and Clover Park School District policy and procedures.
Other Functions:
1. Other duties as assigned.
2. Participate in School Psychologist professional development meetings and trainings.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Enrolled in a Master's program for School Psychology.
2. Completion of necessary coursework in preparation for internship and current enrollment.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Preliminary knowledge of and ability to use psychological and behavioral assessment tools to evaluate students.
2. Preliminary knowledge of and ability to use instructional skills and principles of learning.
3. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and volunteers in a diverse environment.
4. Ability to provide support for building activities and to adjust to new situations and guidance concepts.
5. Ability to facilitate the educational development of students.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
1. Completion of a practicum in school psychology or equivalent experience.
2. Hold or be eligible to hold a Washington state ESA school psychologist certificate.
3. Experience with state and federal laws relating to students with disabilities.
4. Experience serving students in rural or remote districts.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
1. Travel within TREC service region/TREC member district.
2. May be assigned to more than one school building.
Employment Requirements – employment offer is contingent upon satisfying the following:
1. Current enrollment in an accredited graduate degree program in School Psychology.
2. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the WA State Patrol and FBI.
