Community Programs Associate II - COVID-19 Prevention Network

Job Summary:

The Community Program Associate II (CPA II) is an integral part of planning and organizing community engagement programs for domestic and international research sites. The CPA II monitors and provides technical assistance for community engagement activities conducted at clinical study sites to assure adherence to Good Participatory Practice (GPP) Guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and study protocols. CPA II will review community engagement work plans, conduct site assessment visits, and prepare site visit reports to ensure that programs consistently receive solid evaluation scores, operate within budget and meet research operational guidelines. May be responsible for multiple projects and must work well both independently and in a team environment. Participate in the study development, start-up processes, and results dissemination to include reviewing protocols, designing and/or reviewing community engagement and education materials, developing and/or reviewing Informed Consent Forms (ICFs), organizing and presenting at internal and external stakeholder meetings and/or conferences, working with the study management team on community engagement strategies, and/or developing project-specific community trainings. The CPA II may participate in various training programs to maintain awareness of developments in the field of clinical research. 

Accountabilities:


  • Assists with the design and implementation of research studies.
  • Assists in the planning, coordination, and implementation of meetings, workshops and capacity-building sessions.
  • Monitors and maintains the budget for community programs to ensure completion of program.
  • Provides technical and logistic support to community engagement staff at clinical research sites and community advisory groups.
  • Serves as back up to Senior Community Program Associates and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates study specific community engagement strategic plans.
  • Coordinates with clinical research sites to provide updates to community engagement work plans and other reporting tools. .
  • Provides technical assistance and feedback to clinical research sites regarding standard operating procedures for community engagement programs.
  • Establishes guidelines and manuals on enhancing community engagement in research and community engagement strategies.
  • Applies best practices in the development, initiation, planning, execution, control and delivery of community engagement programs.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:


  • Solid knowledge of community engagement practices, concepts, and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Extensive program management skills.
  • Ability to motivate, influence and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve community engagement program goals.
  • Ability to develop educational materials and conduct training sessions focusing on, but not limited to, clinical research, infectious disease, and community engagement.
  • Ability to understand and respond responsibly to cultural differences, political and ethical issues surrounding public health issues.
  • Effective organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proven flexibility and adaptability to work in a team or independently as required.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Has no supervisory responsibilities, but may oversee/lead a functional area.
  • Provides suggestions on business and operational decisions that affect the unit or department.
  • Typically reports to a manager or director.

Education:**

  • Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent Preferred • Life Sciences, Communications, Journalism, Public Health or Related Field.
  • Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent Required • Life Sciences, Communications, Journalism, Public Health or Related Field.

Experience:**

  • Typically requires 5-8 years of experience developing, implementing, and managing community engagement programs and capacity building trainings in the US and internationally.
  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with collaborators and staff.
  • Fluency reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese speaking desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Previous clinical research experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with infectious disease preferred . 
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) preferred.

Typical Physical Demands:


  • Typical office environment. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Personal Computer, Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), e-mail, telephone, printer, calculator, copier, cell phones, PDAs and other handheld devices.

Travel Requirements:


  • 10%-25%
