Entry-Level Systems Engineer

Program Description: 
The Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI), is looking to bring on several Entry-Level Systems Engineers to support one of the leading rail industry programs in automation and technology. TTC’s Communications & Train Control (C&TC) team assists the railroad industry in testing, designing, defining, modeling, and evaluating C&TC technologies. The team provides services to the North American rail industry to support the continued evolution of Positive Train Control (PTC) and related technologies to maintain interoperable safety and functionality. This position is for a Systems Engineer with familiarity in engineering concepts, systems engineering documentation, test design and methodology, analysis, and MATLAB®.
Key Responsibilities:
·        Supports the development of systems engineering documentation.
·        Supports the development of technical analyses and working with railroads and vendors.
·        Supports tracing of requirements and analysis of potential impacts of changes to requirements.
·        Analyzes various aspects of railroad operations as related to the application of new technologies.
·        Organizes, manipulates, and analyzes data, including large data sets.
·        Models, simulates, and interprets results to draw conclusions.
·        Supports technology research and development activities.
·        Duties may also include project management assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or closely related field.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering concepts, particularly system definition process (requirements analysis, system concept definition, and requirements definition) and test methodology (test case definition, test design).
  • Familiarity with the development of formal systems engineering documentation.
  • Exposure to projects involving the development of practical solutions to unique, open-ended problems.
  • The ability to apply logical and methodical approaches to solving engineering problems.
  • Ability to aggregate and analyze large complex data sets from diverse sources and structures.
  • Experience with numerical data analysis software packages, particularly MATLAB®.
  • Demonstrable computer skills, with experience using Microsoft® Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, along with demonstrable analytical and presentation abilities. Capable of preparing and delivering technical presentations to scientific groups. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with internal engineering teams and customers is a must.
  • Familiarity with, or basic understanding of, risk/threat/hazard analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team. 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with engineering projects related to PTC systems.
  • Experience with relational databases and structured query language (SQL).
  • Proficient in testing methods, data collection, and data analysis techniques and reporting.
  • Abilities in computer programming, computer-based analysis, computer-aided design, and computer-based modeling.
  • Experience with reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) analysis concepts.
