Forestry Technician (Lead Forestry Technician-Timber Sale Prep)

The Eagle River-Florence Ranger District on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, is announcing a vacancy for a Forestry Technician (Lead Forestry Technician- Timber Sale Prep), GS-0462-06/07. The major duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Lay out timber sale boundaries in accordance with environmental assessments and/or instructions for timber cutting; mark or designate harvestable timber for appraisal of timber, assess forested area conditions to lay out timber sales; prepare, develop, and execute timber cruises and sample surveys to estimate quality and quantity of timber; interpret silvicultural prescriptions, marking guides to designate harvestable timber; prepare timber sale reports and maps of data for areas cruised; provide instruction to cruisers on measuring timber and cruise methods and techniques for appraisals; lead a marking crew of typically 4 permanent staff, and help out in all aspects of timber sale preparation just to highlight a few of the duties. A full description of the work duties for this position is described in the vacancy announcement on USAjobs.gov at https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/574028400
