Assistant State Auditor - Information Systems Audit Division

The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is the Taxpayers' Watchdog. We watch over government spending to make sure state agencies manage citizen's tax dollars wisely, deliver services effectively, and report results accurately.
The Information Systems Audit (ISA) Division of the OSA is responsible for assessing information technology (IT) risk and the effectiveness of the IT control environment for the State of North Carolina. In addition, the ISA division is responsible for building and maintaining effective and sustainable data analytics to assist the office as a whole. Our data analytics program is designed to grow the value and impact of the "effective examinations of state organizations and programs" while also increasing the efficiency of the "examinations of state organizations and programs."
Our work is important because an IT audit could help to reduce risks of data tampering, data loss or leakage, service disruption, and poor management of IT systems.
DR/CAAT – Positions at this level are entry-level professional auditors who work mostly as a member of an audit team. This position is responsible for processing data retrievals, running existing CAATs, and developing CAATs under the direction of an Audit Supervisor or Auditor-In-Charge. Data retrieval is obtaining data from auditees and putting into a usable format for auditor use. Computed Assisted Auditing Techniques (CAATs) are processes that utilize data to provide results that assist the auditor in planning, understanding, testing, and concluding on audit objectives. The position may also assist in performing information systems audits under the supervision, direction, coaching, and training of an Audit Supervisor or Auditor-In-Charge.
