Finance Americas:
The Finance Group supports the dynamic needs of the business by providing Middle Office, accounting, treasury, tax, regulatory, and financial reporting / analysis services while establishing and monitoring organization-wide internal controls. A role within the Finance division would provide a candidate with an excellent overview of Nomura’s overall financial performance including an understanding of revenues, expenses, regulatory, capital, and other financial resources.

About Our Summer Analyst Program:
The Summer Analyst Program runs for 10 weeks, during which Analysts will enjoy extensive contact with Nomura professionals at all levels through discussion groups, seminars and informal social functions. This program is an integral component of our full time recruiting.

We aim to provide Summer Analysts with the same level of exposure as a first-year Analyst, with a hands-on opportunity to participate as full members of the team. They are expected to form effective working relationships and to demonstrate a commitment to the firm’s goals and values. During the course of the internship, Summer Analysts benefit from working closely with a peer and interacting regularly with a senior mentor.

What Roles You Might Play:
  • Global Middle Office:
  1. Product Control: Timely daily & monthly P&L reconciliation, reporting and analyses. Provide appropriate P&L commentary on drivers (daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly). Work closely with trading desks & Middle Office teams to resolve any trade booking and/or valuation issues and field trading desk queries. Month-end close reconciliations on P&L and balance sheet and balance sheet attestation.
  2. Trade Support: Daily trade capture and verification of all trades within Equity and Fixed Income. Facilitate trade processing from front-end through to settlement. Production and validation of risk and P&L. Deal with queries and ad-hoc requests from front office, risk, compliance, finance and operations.
  3. Cash & Collateral Management: Facilitate and control incoming and outgoing cash flows associated with trading activity and settlement. Partner with Treasury to manage liquidity across various bank accounts and fund for multiple affiliate entities. Mitigate credit risk through the determination and calling of margin at a portfolio level.
  • Cash Management and Analytics / Management Information: Analysis, commentary and presentation of Americas performance, including revenues, costs and financial resources, as well as production of ad hoc financial requests, including periodic trend analyses with appropriate explanation and justification.
  • Financial Reporting: Financial Reporting is responsible for the month-end close process, analyzing and reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements. Responsibilities may include reconciling, investigating and adjusting accounting information as part of the monthly general ledger reconciliation process, preparing financial statements, assisting with quarterly reporting requirements, and using reporting tools to produce analyses
  • Regulatory Reporting: Assist with the preparation of the monthly FOCUS report. Prepare and analyze daily net capital for broker-dealer requirements. Provide appropriate commentary on variances day over day. Work closely with various departments within the firm to resolve any trade booking and/or valuation issues.

Requirements
  • Outstanding academic qualifications; strong GPA
  • Pursuing a Bachelors Degree (preferably Business, Economics, Accounting or Finance)
  • Graduating between December 2021 and June 2023
