Employment Services & Job Development Intern
BENEFITS AND GOALS:
- Through one-on-one client interaction, learn about acculturation challenges and opportunities refugees and other immigrant with legal status encounter after U.S. arrival
- Learn about employment opportunities and barriers for the newly-arrived
- Hands-on participation in helping new arrivals become self-sufficient through early employment
- Identify progressive and immigrant-friendly companies and small businesses
- Research labor market information for region
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external programs and employers
DUTIES: In cooperation with and as directed by MRS staff,
- Participate and co-present in pre-employment group training sessions
- Help with intake and documentation of new clients
- Assist clients with job application forms, answering hiring questionnaires, preparing resumes and cover letters
- Assess client needs and aptitudes; register clients for ESL classes and job training
- Identify and develop job opportunities for MRS clients through outreach to employers
- Assist with developing marketing materials for employment program
- Other duties as directed by staff supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Class standing – Rising Junior through graduate
- A working knowledge of one or more critical foreign languages preferred, but not required (Dari, Farsi, Arabic, Spanish, Pashto, or Kurdish)
- Open to working in a multicultural environment; good interpersonal communication skills
- Flexible and adaptable regarding change in routines and duties
- Research capability on area employment opportunities is a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
