Classroom Intern (Remote Position)

Position Title: Classroom Intern (this is a remote position)
Reports To: Intern Coordinator(s)
Salary: $12.75/hour

Position Summary
The Steppingstone Academy and College Success Academy (Steppingstone) are programs of The Steppingstone Foundation, which prepares and supports students in grades 5 and 6 to succeed in high school and graduate from college. During the academic year, Steppingstone provides after school programming to 5th and 6th grade students on Saturdays to help with homework and to further develop their academic and social emotional learning. This year, all programming will take place remotely through December, and will potentially continue remotely through the spring semester.

Position Overview
Interns will join a dynamic team of staff and faculty to execute Steppingstone’s virtual programming on Saturdays throughout the academic year. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational and computer skills, as well as outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. 

We are seeking motivated self-starters who bring experience working with adolescent youth. Interns will have the opportunity to interact with Scholars, co-lead classes, and learn from knowledgeable staff. 

Schedule
  • Days: Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m
  • Program Dates: September 26 - December 12; Potential to continue January-March  

Responsibilities
  • Co-teach a core subject class with a lead teacher (2 class periods total)
  • Provide academic support, 1-on-1 or in a group, during study hall 
  • Assist lead teacher in supervising zoom classrooms, including entrance, breakout rooms, answering questions, and taking attendance
  • Support in resolving any tech issues which may arise for Scholars 


Qualifications
  • Demonstrates commitment to educational equity and college access
  • Demonstrates competency with middle school students
  • Demonstrates ability to be flexible and respond appropriately in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent cross-cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
  • Strong interpersonal skills, writing skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills (experience with Zoom, Google Classroom, and Google Apps preferred)
