Research Scientist II (Epidemiology/Biostatistics)

Under the general direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the incumbent will perform a range of tasks focused on the evaluation of pesticide use and illness episodes and the development of mitigation measures in the Human Health Mitigation Program of the Worker Health and Safety Branch to protect human health and the environment. These tasks include:
  • Reviewing pesticide illness surveillance data maintained by DPR's Pesticide Illness Surveillance Program (PISP) and extracting spatial information from PISP records to geocode into Geographical Information Systems (GIS) shape files. 
  • Conducting detailed geospatial analysis to determine possible human health mitigation recommendations, focusing planning and tracking of pesticide safety outreach and education activities, and evaluating the effectiveness of implemented mitigation measures. 
  • Researching, collecting, reviewing, and analyzing environmental and human health data to develop mitigation measures to reduce human health exposure risks from pesticides. 
  • Conducting scientific research related to geospatial relationships between pesticide illness incidents, pesticide use trends, and other factors. 
  • Developing reports on research studies and pesticide use and illness data trends.
  • Assisting in maintaining a centralized GIS data library, perform specialty software support as necessary, and taking a lead role in coordinating DPR's GIS workgroup activities.
