The Federal Reserve Bank of New York is the largest and most important regional bank in the Federal Reserve System. The New York Fed is the primary conduit of the Fed's monetary policy through open market operations, emergency lending facilities, quantitative easing, and foreign exchange transactions.

Over the course of the 10-week program, interns will be assigned to a particular area or function and have opportunities for collaboration with other interns and employees from around the New York Fed. In addition to their daily responsibilities, interns will attend weekly presentations hosted by senior management on the New York Fed’s responsibilities and operations. This program allows interns to learn about career opportunities in public service at the New York Fed and is a direct feeder for the New York Fed’s full-time analyst rotational programs/roles.

About Our Summer Programs
Our summer programs provide outstanding opportunities for students to gain valuable work experience in public service at a unique institution. Through project work assignments and professional development activities, students gain an extensive understanding of the New York Fed’s work. Interns have the opportunity to enhance their professional skills through critical financial analysis, formal presentations, research, and writing. The New York Fed’s internships are available for undergraduates (sophomores and juniors) and graduate students. Each of the summer programs begin in early June.

The Office of Employee Benefits (OEB), located in Newark, N.J., comprises a staff of 63 professionals who oversee benefit programs for approximately 59,000 current and former employees of the Federal Reserve and their beneficiaries. The OEB was established in 1934 to administer the Federal Reserve System’s Retirement Plan. Over time, the OEB's responsibilities have expanded to include additional retirement benefits, health benefits, life insurance, long-term disability and other personal protection plans.

The OEB's mission is to be a center of excellence, providing leadership in formulating employee benefit programs and operating these programs on behalf of the Reserve Banks, Board of Governors and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau with outstanding customer service, sound and cost-efficient operations, professional expertise and ongoing innovation.

This internship at the OEB will be placed in the Asset Management (Investments) area.
 
Requirements:
The Summer Intern Program requires that applicants complete their sophomore year of college by the beginning of the internship. The program is extremely competitive and size is limited. As a summer intern at the OEB, applicants for the position in Asset Management must have a demonstrated interest in business, finance or a related discipline as well as a strong academic record. General requirements include: 
 
·        Working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint;
·        Strong analytical and critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to assimilate new information, make sound decisions and manage multiple tasks;
·        Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written;
·        Ability to grasp information quickly;
·        Attention to detail; and
·        Ability to work productively in a high-performing, collegial atmosphere.
