Payroll Accountant

The Payroll Accountant is responsible for preparing and executing payroll processes, while providing outstanding customer service to all BioAgilytix employees. He or she is responsible for ensuring adherence to the Company's policies, in addition to accurate and timely payroll processing. The Payroll Accountant focuses on building strong business relationships and adding value through optimal customer service, excellent organizational skills, and improving processing efficiencies.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring all aspects of the payroll cycle, including but not limited to tax, benefits, garnishments, etc., are processed, reconciled, audited, and transmitted accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll impacting changes
  • Understands and explains variances in payroll results to proactively identify potential problems and solutions
  • Creates, updates, and reviews standard operating procedures and performs quarterly document reviews
  • Proactively manages quarter and year-end payroll audits and statutory requirements
  • Complies with federal and state payroll requirements; maintains current understanding of changes to payroll processing policies, procedures, and software updates
  • Prepares and posts various payroll journal entries to the Company's accounting system and reconciles general ledger activity and payroll accruals
  • Serves as liaison to HR, benefits, and Finance teams to facilitate collaboration and company-wide best practices
  • Is proactive in planning ahead, anticipating potential inaccuracies, and identifying opportunities for process improvement
  • Provides quality customer service to all employees by answering questions and requests
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field of study
  • Not less than two (2) years' experience in processing payroll for an organization with over 300 employees via an online system


Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of payroll, benefits, and taxation; understanding of applicable legislative requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of management and employees; ability to gain credibility, provide effective customer service, and foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytic, problem solving, and consultancy skills; ability to think critically and creatively in developing solutions to challenges
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.); advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records
  • Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities; ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines in a fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels
  • Ability to appropriately and discreetly handle confidential information

 

Preferred Credentials

  • Relevant professional accounting and payroll experience
  • Knowledge of labor laws and related compliance requirements
  • Working knowledge of payroll software systems (Paylocity and Ceridian Dayforce)
  • Working knowledge of financial accounting systems and/or specifically NetSuite

 

Working Environment

  • Primarily office (i.e., blend of office and work-from-home)
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets

 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an upright and /or stationary position for up to 8 hours per day
  • Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists to operate office equipment
  • Occasional mobility needed
  • Occasional crouching, stooping, with frequent bending and twisting of upper body and neck
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including files, office supplies, and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 20 pounds
  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Frequently interacts with others to obtain or relate information to diverse groups
  • Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals; Requires multiple periods of intense concentration
  • Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence; Ability to perform under stress; Ability to multi-task
  • Regular and consistent attendance

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position
  • Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the "core" work hours as published in the BioAgilytix Employee Handbook
  • Occasional weekend, holiday, and evening work may be required
  • This position requires minimal travel
