Development Associate

As a Development Associate you will contribute to existing projects as well as new endeavors. The primary role will be to join the Asset Management team for the 2,100+, $700 million military family housing project at Fort Belvoir, VA in the Washington, DC suburbs. This public private partnership (P3) project is a 50‐year venture between CRC and the US Army to develop, construct, operate and maintain housing for active duty service members and their families. Additional duties may include asset management work for a similar project in Columbus, GA (the 4,000+ home, $500 million military housing P3 project at Fort Benning, GA). Limited travel may be required to Georgia in the asset management oversight role.

The Development Associate position is ideal for highly motivated executors who have honed the ability to tackle seemingly impossible challenges with intellect, finesse, and compassion for others—and who like to have a little bit of fun in the process. Our Asset Management team is the powerhouse behind the planning, reporting, execution, and delivery of responsible performance on all of our important assets.

Responsibilities:
Associates are responsible for a wide variety of tasks. The collaborative approach towards projects and new opportunities enables Associates to gain exposure to all core business units. Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  •  Conducting financial analysis of existing and potential projects
  •  Conducting market research, online and in‐person, to develop assumptions for new projects and benchmarks for existing projects
  •  Creating presentations and reports for investors, partners, and lenders
  •  Engaging community stakeholders to enhance the customer experience
  •  Working with architects and planners to refine and finalize a project's architectural elements and style
  •  Overseeing consultants and contractors, managing both the schedule and budget
  •  Managing projects before and after construction commences, including processing of funding draws
  •  On‐site development management and oversight of contractors
  •  Planning and coordinating project initiatives implemented by the property manager
  •  Working with Army partner on project reporting and property inspections
  •  Identifying and evaluating new project opportunities

  •  A bachelor’s degree with proven quantitative and analytical skills
  •  Excellent written and oral communication skills
  •  Superb project management skills, both individually and as part of a team
  •  Strong interpersonal and leadership qualities
  •  Self‐motivated with an ability to think independently while also working well in a highly‐collaborative team environment
  •  Eagerness to learn and stay aware of investment and market conditions
  •  High‐level attention to detail and an understanding of its application to the bigger picture
  •  Demonstrated interest in real estate development and investment
  •  Financial modeling experience in Microsoft Excel is a plus
