Development and Outreach Department
New York Office (initially remote)

The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an Assistant to provide support to the Leadership Gifts team. This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and is anticipated to start in November 2020 and end June 2021. The position will be remote for the foreseeable future given COVID-19 and the closure of our offices; the successful candidate may be based somewhere other than New York but should be able and willing to keep eastern timezone working hours. The Assistant reports to the Senior Associate Director, Leadership Gifts & Stewardship, based in New York. 

Responsibilities:

1. Support the Senior Associate Director in scheduling, organizing, and formatting information ahead of meetings with frontline fundraisers, senior management, and executive support.
2. Maintain team notes, spreadsheets, and Salesforce database with meeting next steps, donor information, and strategy decisions. 
3. Work closely with the Leadership Gifts team to build reports in the Salesforce database and design processes that will help automate stewardship lists, financial reports, and prospect pipelines 
4. Draft donor stewardship writing for the Executive Director and the Deputy Executive Director (DED), Development and Global Initiatives which includes, but is not limited to acknowledgment emails and letters, pledge letters, audit documentation, meeting requests, year-end notes, event invites, etc.;
5. Edit draft emails from Development and Outreach colleagues into the voice of the Executive Director and the DED, Development and Global Initiatives;
6. Incorporate edits and facilitate the review process to collect feedback on writing before submitting to the Executive Director and DED, Development and Global Initiatives;
7. Pull donor contact information, background communication, or proposal information from foundation files and Salesforce database;
8. Save, print, and PDF letters from the Executive Director and DED, Development and Global Initiatives and any perform other administrative tasks associated with sending writing to a donor;
9. Save all correspondence into the Salesforce database;
10. Save formal acknowledgement letters, audit, pledge status, and pledge letters into SharePoint; and
11. Perform other responsibilities as may be required. 


Qualifications: 

Education: A bachelor’s degree in human rights, international relations, social science, or a related field is desirable. Applicants currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields will be considered. 

Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is desirable. 

Related Skills and Knowledge: 

1. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential. 
2. Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail are required. 
3. Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision, and work independently as well as function as a member of a team are required. 
4. Proficiency in computer programs including MS Office applications is required. 
5. Prior office/administration experience is preferred. 
6. Strong analytical skills and the ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously are necessary. 
7. Database experience is strongly preferred, and knowledge of Salesforce is highly desirable.
8. Strong interest in human rights is desirable.
