Corporate Sustainability Intern

PURPOSE: This position will help Andersen advance sustainability initiatives throughout the company. The role will assist the Sustainability team with activities including, but not limited to: corporate reporting, supplier engagement, product lifecycle analysis and research.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Synthesize environmental and social responsibility data and product and operational performance in digestible reports and educational formats for key stakeholders
  • Engage in and support waste reduction projects across the organization
  • Research current or future partnerships with nongovernmental organizations and emerging external environmental and social responsibility trends
  • Identify improvements to our facilities and business practices that allow employees to reduce their environmental impact

POTENTIAL PROJECTS:
(Final project determined based on strengths and passions of intern)

Under the direction of the Product Sustainability Engineer, work with internal partners and suppliers to advance efforts in making Andersen products more sustainable and generating product transparency labels and certifications.

  • Mapping material usage across product portfolios
  • Health Product Declaration generation
  • Create sustainability or green chemistry best practices and guidance documentation

Under the direction of the Sustainability Analyst, assist other Andersen locations across the enterprise, including supplying those sites with sustainability tools and educational resources. Assist with the formation and coordination of employee-based sustainability committees, campaigns or events.

  • Wood supply chain mapping and risk assessment
  • Global Reporting Initiative sustainability index
  • Waste auditing and sorting strategies
  • Manage application process for sustainable facilities projects

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, all majors considered with preference given to STEM and/or business management
  • Anticipated graduation date May 2022
  • Knowledge and passion for corporate sustainability and social responsibility
  • Strong communication and project management skills
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external constituents
  • Some experience in Microsoft Excel
