The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), COVID-19 Health Information Center (HIC), in Portland, OR is recruiting - a bilingual Spanish Writer.

What will you do?
As a bilingual Spanish Writer for OHA’s Health Information Center for the COVID-19 response, you will focus on writing and editing website content, social media cards, flyers, factsheets, FAQs, talking points and health and safety educational campaign materials related to the spread of COVID-19. You will ensure content is accurate, consistent with guidance documents and all COVID-19 messaging, culturally relevant and written in plain language. You will assist the Deputy Public Information Officer (PIO) for Media Relations in writing talking points for Spanish language radio interviews, paid Univision advertising campaigns and news releases. In addition, you will review Spanish content written by contractors to ensure translation quality.
In this role, you will carry-out all communications activities, such as voiceovers and posting and responding to comments on OHA’s Espanol Facebook page, as assigned by the Lead Public Information Officer (PIO), Deputy PIO for Content Strategy and Assistant PIO for Content Development, in consultation with the Deputy PIO for Media Relations.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionally affected Oregon’s Latinx community. You will play a critical role in helping ensure the health and safety of these valuable community members through communication in their preferred language.

What are we looking for?
Required Skill:

  • Bilingual proficiency – Spanish/English

Requested Skills:

  • Minimum requirements: A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, the Behavioral or Social Sciences or related degree and two years professional level experience in Public Relations or Affairs OR
  • Five years’ experience directly related to the position under recruitment; two of the five years must have been at the professional level.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license or alternate transportation.
  • Experience with media, social media, print and web-based information delivery systems.
  • Experience with computer software such as the Microsoft Office suite and design platforms such as Canva.
  • Experience in strategic thinking and demonstrated skill set in the communications field.
  • Experience in advancing public education about programs, services and initiatives through the news media and other communication channels as appropriate.
  • Experience with interpersonal, analytical judgment skills and possess excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in writing, editing and proficient public speaking.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively coordinating and facilitating diverse interests.
  • Experience completing multiple tasks with varying deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Experience promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
