Accounting Services Manager

Catawba County, North Carolina is seeking a professional with experience in local government accounting, financial management and reporting in compliance with current accounting standards. The individual should be able to work at an advanced level to independently analyze, monitor and summarize financial information from the County’s records. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger accounts, supervision of the employees and processes in Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management. The individual communicates regularly with other supervisors and staff as well with personnel with outside agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
·      Supervision of the positions and processes in Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management and General Ledger.
·      Communication with supervisors, staff, and others.
·      Maintain the integrity of general ledger accounts, verify financial data and reconcile subsidiary accounts and other supporting information, as needed.
·      Assure completion of various types of financial reports. Timely closing of general ledger monthly.
·      Assist departments with accounting problems, budget transfers and revisions.
·      Coordinate issues related to the accounting system with the technology staff to ensure accounting processes are working as designed and correct any related errors.
·      Assist with implementation of software upgrades to accounting system.
·      Monitor work flow between positions to make sure deadlines are met.
·      Assist with the annual audit process including the preparation of schedules and note disclosures in the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
·      Collaborate on special studies and analytical projects.
·      Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
·      Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 4 years of experience in the planning and management of fiscal activities and accounting systems, preferably in a governmental setting, including one year of supervisory experience

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
·       Utilizing computer and relevant software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Oracle PeopleSoft). Expertise in Excel is required.
·       Coordinating deadlines, prioritizing work demands including project management.
·       Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and standards (e.g., Payroll regulations and GASB Accounting Standards).
·       Cooperation and customer service with those included in course of work.
·       Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisors, and others.
·       This is considered light sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Work is routinely performed in an indoor office environment.
