Optimist Film Marketing & Outreach Internship - Spring 2021

2021 Optimist Film & Outreach Marketing Internship

POSITION SUMMARY:
Optimist is seeking an intern to work closely with the entire team to grow our audience, manage the screening tour for our new feature film, and support our life-changing impact campaigns. This will be a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in grassroots engagement, documentary production, film marketing, social content creation, non-profit campaigns and partnership building.  

The position is unpaid, but we encourage applicants to seek funding from their schools. Flexible days and hours, with a minimum of 16 hours per week.

COVID-19 Update:
Right now, we all work entirely remotely and are looking for remote internship candidates. If and when it’s safe for the office to re-open in person, a Los Angeles-based intern would be welcome to work from our office in Atwater Village. 


Qualifications
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student
  • Strong and professional communication skills
  • Organized with experience using Google Sheets 
  • Experience building partnerships with stakeholders
  • Familiarity with all major social media platforms
  • Creative thinker
  • Willing to pitch in on a wide range of projects as needed
  • Love of film and storytelling
Bonus Skills:
  • Database experience
  • Spanish fluency

DUTIES:

Marketing
  • Build new impact and publicity partners for upcoming feature documentary, Five Years North
  • Help build and execute strategy for marketing new films to education/school audiences
  • Outreach to schools, conferences and organizations to facilitate content partnerships, screenings, and talks by Chris & Zach.
  • Serving as primary liaison for grassroots screening tour
  • Come up with innovate ways to reach new audiences with the documentary
  • Help analyze success of grassroots film distribution
  • Monitor for online mentions of film(s)

Social
  • Assist with social outreach/engagement
  • Research subjects for new social media videos
  • Research partners for distributing social videos and form relationships
  • Monitor news for relevant subjects to engage with or address
  • Lead content development for Teacher Facebook group
