Engineering Geologist
The Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board in Riverside has an opening for an Engineering Geologist in the Underground Storage Tank Unit. The position location is 3737 Main St., Ste 500, Riverside, CA 92501, right in the heart of downtown Riverside, CA.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Equivalent to graduation from college with major work in geology, engineering geology, or a closely related field that includes coursework in geology. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.) (Registration as a senior in a recognized institution will admit applicants to the Engineering Geologist examination, but they must produce evidence of graduation or its equivalent before they can be considered eligible for appointment.)
Pay and Benefits:
The Water Resources Control Engineering Geologist classification's standard pay range is $5,540.00 to $10,430.00. Benefits packages for State employees include health, dental, vision, retirement, and much more!
NOTE: Effective July 1, 2020, State employees are subject to a 9.23% salary reduction in exchange for up to 16 hours of the Personal Leave Program 2020 (PLP 2020) per month.

Perform water quality protection work, consisting of the review of technical reports/workplans pertaining to sites of contaminant releases, with complex subsurface geologic situations, site-specific chemical information and analytical details, such as types and toxicity of contaminants present, groundwater monitoring well design, siting and installation, remedial technologies’ selection and the evaluate of the effectiveness in their application. Review of Waste Discharge Requirements and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination reports for compliance with the limit of Board-issued permits for the discharge of wastes
Meet with Responsible Parties’ consultants and State Board staff to evaluate proposed technical solutions for soil and groundwater contaminant investigations and cleanups, prepare meeting summaries and maintain case files and records in the State’s online databases, such as GeoTracker & CIWQS.
Perform field activities, including inspections of contaminant release sites to evaluate remedial options and systems, and prepare field inspection reports. These inspections allow for the verification of contaminant investigations and the confirmation of contaminant remediation installation, which include cleanup projects which are Statefunded.
Provide assistance to public inquires in a timely and professional manner; participate in program management support activities, and conduct file management tasks. These functions support the access to the documents we generate.
Prepare and present complex technical reports, enforcement orders and studies to the Regional Board, other State agencies or Stakeholder groups for cases dealing with complex geologic or hydrologic issues.
Participate in appropriate specialized training courses and conferences as available. These courses and other training opportunities would further the incumbent knowledge of the field of contaminant remediation.
