Associate of Arts Degree in Engineering Technology, CAD/D Technology or a closely related field, five years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience in the preparation of civil engineering contract drawings and plans using CAD; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience .This position requires the completion of the the completion of Microsoft Excel and Attention to Detail with a minimum score of "moderate knowledge". These tests can be taken at CareerSource North Central Florida, located at 10 NW 6th Street, Gainesville, FL 32601. I also understand that I should call CareerSource North Central Florida at (352) 955-2245 to schedule an appointment or call the County Human Resources Office at (352) 374-5219 to confirm that my scores are already on file. Passing scores must be received by the Human Resources Office via email at achr@alachuacounty.us no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday after the position closes.  Position Summary: This is advanced technical work in the application of drafting skills in the Public Works Department.

This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work.

An employee assigned to this classification performs technical duties involved in the application of advanced drafting skills and techniques, both manual and computer assisted, in the preparation of road design plans, maps, and other illustrative materials. Types of projects will be transportation related, roadway and trail systems, civil engineering, architectural, mapping, and testing and other plans or schematic preparations.

Work is performed under the direction of a higher level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.
 Examples of Duties: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Creates roadway construction plans and provide other related documentation with occasional assistance from supervisor or others.

Performs civil engineering design drafting duties and computations, operating a CAD system using graphic oriented software and other related computer systems and software.

Drafts plans, profiles, cross sections, details, alignments and illustration topographical features from written or electronic data.

Assists with the planning and layout of technical contract plans, and the preparation of engineering reports or studies, including spreadsheets, charts, graphs, technical illustrations and displays.

Performs calculation, prepares maps and right-of-way drawings as required; reviews proposed construction drawings for drafting accuracy and logic in layout, forwarding plans requiring review to appropriate personnel.

Manipulates field data gathered by survey crews and drafts topographical features such as structural segments of flood control or road projects, and other objects whose position is important to the design of a project.

Receives, analyzes, plots and files data used to maintain, expand upon, and refine maps and records; reviews survey records.

Digitizes and scans maps, plans, drawings and legal documents for applicable use in the design process.

Maintains complex office records, including maps, plans, boundary descriptions, county road data permits, legal documents and similar materials.

Calculates and computes quantities and costs of materials for routine construction projects.

Researches, drafts and reviews records of survey and parcel maps.

Obtains, analyzes and interprets title reports and property deeds; also determines frontage adjustments, calculates the present and future right-of-way lines and makes necessary drawings; and writes the proper deed.

Performs engineering drafting design, which includes setting vertical and horizontal control; engineering signing and striping details; also reviews and advises on standard engineering requirements with other offices and agencies.

Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge and ability in the application of principles and practices of engineering road design and construction, including use of tools and equipment.

Knowledge of modern surveying instruments and methods of using them.

Knowledge of engineering drafting materials and techniques.

Knowledge of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) equipment and software e.g. AutoCAD, MocroStation, ProE.

Knowledge of related software that performs input and reduction, survey collection, coordinate geometry, digital terrain modeling, contour generation, earthworks and design.

Knowledge of fundamentals of engineering drafting design and land surveying.

Knowledge of technical report writing.

Knowledge of basic principles, practices and legal aspects of land surveying work.

Knowledge of Florida codes and specifications related to construction and design.

Ability to review engineering plans and documents for compliance with legal provisions.

Ability to prepare complete and comprehensive written reports involving the analysis of rules and regulations and engineering plans and documents. •

Ability to do accurate engineering drafting work from electronic mediums, survey notes, sketches and other detailed guides.

Ability to read and interpret legal descriptions, engineering drawings, survey notes and tract descriptions.

Ability to communicate and organize work effectively.
