Exhibit Design Fellow

The Wild Center, a natural history museum in the heart of New York State’s Adirondack region, is seeking an Exhibit Design Fellow to support the Center’s upcoming exhibition on climate change solutions. The Wild Center seeks a highly motivated and organized Exhibit Design Fellow to support the exhibit design and prototyping process, including assisting with graphic design and prototyping; visitor evaluation; content research; and administrative support. The upcoming climate change solutions exhibit will open during Summer 2022. The Exhibit Design Fellow will be an integral member of the exhibit design team, and will report to the Center’s Exhibit Developer. The position runs from June to mid-December 2021 and has some flexibility based on the applicant’s schedule. Position is based in Tupper Lake, NY. 

Position Responsibilities 
● Assist with the exhibit prototyping process. Prototyping activities include:
  • Working from creative briefs to design draft exhibit label mockups
  • Mocking up interactive exhibit prototypes 
  • Collecting data from prototyping sessions through visitor evaluation
● Assist with content research for topics that will be covered in the upcoming exhibit 
● Assist with research on repurposed and sustainable materials for use in the exhibit 
● Assist with coordinating video shoots 
● Provide administrative support for the exhibit design team 
● There is flexibility within this position to develop projects that align with the fellow’s passions, strengths, and areas for growth 

Qualifications 
● Training, education, and/or experience in graphic design, with a high working proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite 
● Comfortable describing and pitching design ideas and creative direction
● Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, with a focus on inDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop preferred. Strong conceptual thinking and use of typography, composition and information design skills 
● Energetic, goal-oriented team player with excellent work ethic 
● Strong communication skills, including writing and editing
● Familiarity with the Zoom platform for both working remotely and virtual events
● Self motivated and comfortable working independently 
● Passionate about climate change 
● Excited and willing to learn and develop new skills 
● Flexibility and the ability to adapt to change as it arises - The Wild Center is a dynamic, team-based setting where responsibilities can change quickly
● Organization and time management skills - you will work on multiple tasks concurrently 
● Some evening and weekend work required. 
● Willing to adhere to NYS COVID safety procedures and regulations 

Compensation & Benefits 
● Hourly rate of $12.50/hour for a 35 hour work week 
● Shared, fully-equipped housing available within 1 mile of The Wild Center
● The opportunity to work in a LEED certified state of the art facility on a 115 acre site on the Raquette River featuring over 50 species of live exhibit animals
