2022 Wells Fargo Consumer Lending Summer Intern Program

Wells Fargo’s Consumer Lending businesses empower millions of customers to achieve their dreams every day. Whether it’s buying a home, purchasing a car, funding a significant purchase, or making important daily credit card purchases, Consumer Lending provides important credit products and services that help our customers succeed. The group includes Home Lending; Auto; Card and Merchant Services; Personal Loans and Retail Services; Consumer Lending Control; and Consumer Lending Shared Services.
 
The Consumer Lending team partners with other businesses across Wells Fargo to create and deliver transformational experiences that help customers gain access to credit. The vision for the Consumer Lending business is to leverage technology and data to make it simple for customers to easily access credit when and where they need it. Consumer Lending serves customers across the country through our distribution network of more than 5,300 retail banking branches and Home Lending offices, as well as online and digital channels.
 
WHAT THE PROGRAM OFFERS
The Wells Fargo Consumer Lending Summer Intern Program is a professional development program that provides participants with a non-rotational ten-week overview of Wells Fargo and a high-level understanding of the company's operations, business strategies, and corporate culture.
 
We provide undergraduate students with a blend of business and professional developmental training opportunities that incorporates real-world experiences and prepares you for your future career. The benefits of the program include:

OUR BUSINESSES
You may be placed in one of the Consumer Lending lines of business groups outlined below:
 
Auto Lending
A leading indirect auto lender offering consumers vehicle financing through a network of approximately 11,000 dealers nationwide. With a loan portfolio of over $51 billion, we serve more than 3 million consumers’ auto financing needs.

Core Responsibilities include but limited to the following: 

  • Consult and participate in system/change initiatives for process design and re-engineering by engaging with the requestor of the work and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the solution design best solves the problem.
  • Understand and utilize Kanban methodology to deliver systemic changes, track your work through completion and deliver quality outcomes.
  • Identify process and systemic gaps for multiple systems and establish controls in an effort to mitigate risk.
  • Research customer inquiries about systemic functionality and/or behavior by understanding current state and proposed future state gap analysis.
  • Provide systemic access level management support. 
 
Home Lending
A team of more than 25,000 mortgage professionals in sales, operations, servicing, capital markets, portfolio management, risk management, and related business support functions.
Core Responsibilities include but limited to the following: 

Sales Team:

Jr Mortgage Consultant:
  • Responsible for working under the guidance of a Home Mortgage Consultant to produce high quality loans that meet Wells Fargo Home Mortgage guidelines by building referral relationships with realtors, builders, financial professionals, bank stores, past customers and other nontraditional sources while providing excellent customer service.
  • Receive customer applications, quote rates and points, and complete follow-up activities.
  • Analyze detailed financial and credit data, matching customer needs with an appropriate loan program and level of risk.

Business Initiatives Team:
  • Responsible for planning and executing a variety of programs and initiatives to include process improvement, redesign and change management.
  • Accountable to track and evaluate performance of programs and ensure compliance.
 
Credit Cards & Merchant Services (CMS)
Empowers millions of customers achieve their dreams every day. Card Services resides in the Consumer Lending line of business and provides important credit products and services that empower our customers. The group includes Marketing, Product Management and Loyalty Solutions, Business Strategy and Analytics, Credit Solutions Collections, Servicing and Operations, Small Business Card, Merchant Services, and Relationship Management.

Core Responsibilities include but limited to the following: 

  • Build relationships and gain valuable exposure to marketing, advertising, social media strategy, product/relationship management and competitive analysis projects. Work across functional teams to support CMS strategic projects, investments and analysis.
  • Support business with strategy, analytics and insights including strategic assessments, dashboard creations, monthly business reviews, ad-hoc reports and analysis and dispute resolutions. 
  • Identify future trends, competitive intelligence and develop actionable approach to maximize value for the customer and bank. Developing new product/feature and building new digital experiences to grow our customer base
 
Personal Loans and Retail Services
Personal Loans provides important unsecured credit products that help our customers achieve their goals, such as major purchases, debt consolidation, and home improvements. The group includes Marketing, Business Excellence, Loan Originations, Product Management, and Servicing and Operations.

Core Responsibilities include but limited to the following: 

Consumer Loan Underwriter: Responsible for reviewing, analyzing, underwriting, approving/declining individual and joint consumer credit requests for products within company and regulatory guidelines. Job functions may include: 

  • Evaluating and ensuring overall loan transaction is accurate, complete, and compliant 
  • Applying knowledge of standard underwriting procedures, creditor financial analysis techniques 
  • Reviewing credit reports and interpreting the data
  • Calculation of applicable ratios to determine affordability, credit utilization, asset coverage, etc. 
  • Understanding economic employment trends
  • Reviewing supporting documentation for truthfulness and accuracy 
  • Implementation of fraud detection and prevention techniques 
  • Understanding of the use of automated scoring system 
  • Contacting customers and partners to gather information to make appropriate decisions 
 
Shared Services
The Consumer Lending Shared Services (CLSS) team is responsible for delivering common services across the entire Consumer Lending organization. Lead cross-business initiatives that enhance customer experiences, strengthen risk management, and increase our overall efficiency to drive important business outcomes across Consumer Lending.

Core Responsibilities include but limited to the following: 

Analytics:
  • Support business within analytics and insights generation including dashboard creations, monthly business reviews, ad-hoc reports, and analysis.
  • Support CL in the implementation of data standards, resolution of cross LOB data issues, and in the oversight of technology solutions sitting within the business. Ensure that proper controls are in place around the data leveraged by CL for analytics, reporting, and insight.

Financial Crimes:
  • Responsible for participating in cross Consumer Lending fraud and financial crime programs and initiatives to include crypto and Fintech.

Business Support:

  • Learn the Business Review process for CLSS & our OKRs in order to help Fong assemble the package each month
  • Responsible for the weekly CLSS agenda topics, materials, and publishing all documents out on our CLSS Leadership page
  • Solicit leaders for Newsletter topics, follow up with Town Hall topics, and track “Ask Courtney Anything” questions that come up and track down answers after the call
  • Learn more about the CLSS Financials and help track monthly meetings and changes to Financials with our Finance partners and store monthly reports on our CLSS Leadership site
  • Attend DE&I events across the bank and bring information/learnings and playbacks to the CLSS Leadership team for those that may have missed events
 
Program duration: 10 weeks (June 6, 2022 – Aug 12, 2022)

Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree candidate with an expected graduation date in December 2022 or May/June 2023
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to take on a high level of responsibility, initiative, and accountability
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite of products
