Easterseals Wisconsin Camps- Spring AmeriCorps Member

Throughout their stay, campers can participate in a wide range of activities, and our staff/AmeriCorps members are there to help make it all happen! Typical camp activities- arts and crafts, sports and games, drama, music, boating, canoeing, archery, climbing wall, zip line, swimming, camp out, cook out, camp fires and camp songs, talent shows, dances and so much more. These activities build self-confidence, promote independence, promote physical activity and provide an environment to build connections with peers while enjoying nature.

The AmeriCorps Respite Apprentice will provide direct service and camper care for campers with disabilities at Respite Camp. Respite Camp provides caregivers a break from the strains of caring for a loved one with a disability.
 
Program Benefits: AmeriCorps members will be provided room and board while serving during respite weekends. This position receives a living stipend totaling $1,860 for the full term of service (300 hours). After successfully completing a term of service, the member will be eligible to receive an education award. The education award can be used to pay education costs at qualified institutions of higher education or training programs, or to repay qualified student loans. The award will equal $1,342.86 if the full term of service is completed. This position provides hands-on experience for students in nursing, occupational therapy, recreation therapy and anyone interested in learning more about serving people with disabilities. Other benefits include professional training, CPR/First Aid certification, networking opportunities and making a difference to the community.
 
Recreation and Personal Care Responsibilities
Ø Familiarize yourself with the needs of the camper(s) in your care. As appropriate, assist, instruct and supervise campers in personal care skills, including dressing, toileting, eating, showering, lifting and transferring. 
Ø Ensure campers are at the activities of his/her choice. Encourage and assist campers to participate fully in activities. Adapt activities as needed.
Ø Ensure campers receive medications on time.
Ø Assist staff and other AmeriCorps members when possible.
 
Program Leadership Responsibilities
Ø Plan and lead camp programs as assigned, including sports and games, arts and crafts, community trips and water activities. 
Ø Make connections with individuals and volunteers in the community for program outreach and program enhancement.
Ø Assist AmeriCorps members and staff in programming and activities.
Ø Train and assist volunteers that attend respite weekends. 
 
Training Responsibilities: Member will receive on-site orientation the weekend of January 16-18, 2022. The Respite Apprentices are expected to participate in all Easterseals Wisconsin led AmeriCorps trainings, including AmeriCorps Orientation, Citizenship Training, Conflict Resolution and CPR/First Aid.
