Student Assistant I Department of Anesthesiology

Nature of Work

The Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a student Assistant I/Student Trainee, focused in research, to learn how to and assist with the study the role of endogenous and exogenous modulators of voltage-gated calcium channels in pain pathway using pharmacology and mouse genetics.

Supervision Received
The student will be directly supervised by and have daily interaction with Dr. Slobodan Todorovic.

Supervision Exercised
This position will not supervise others.

Examples of Work Performed
·      Assist with handling rodents and perform behavioral pain testing
·      Assist with administering anesthesia and perform surgery on rodents
·      Assist with preparing and injecting different drugs in rodents
·      Present data using special software (student to receive training in software prior to use)

·      Excellent record keeping ability

·      Strong communication skills
·      Ability to work independently

Minimum Requirements
In the process of obtaining a BS in neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or another closely related scientific discipline

Preferred Requirements
Exposure to research via classes and/or other research endeavors
Exposure to, understanding of, or experience with in vivo pharmacology relevant to pain mechanisms

Salary Range
Starting at $12.00/hour
