Corporate Intern - IT - Cyber Defense/Information Security

The Information Technology organization at First Citizen’s Bank has established a summer internship program to invest in our future workforce. The program is designed to provide an opportunity for you to apply classroom knowledge in a corporate IT environment while delivering tangible value to the organization. On the Cyber Defense team – part of the Information Security department – we design, engineer and maintain the security services, processes, and infrastructure supporting our core mission: ensuring users and applications can securely connect to. This internship provides an opportunity to gain Cyber Security-industry experience, learn the risks and issues that may occur due to inappropriate firewall, proxy, remote access configurations, and participate in projects and activities that implement the Bank’s Information Security standards by partnering with senior members of the team.
 
In addition, each Intern will be given the following opportunities:
  • Assigned to a manager who can help guide you through the program on a daily basis. 
  • Assignment of a mentor to help facilitate a broader view of the Information Technology function.
  • Additionally, a peer advisor team in in place to assist the Intern in being successful with navigating organization, political, and cultural landscapes.
  • Participation in unique technology or banking related training events.
  • Involvement in networking and team-building events. 
  • A project designed to improve a defined process within the Bank’s Information Technology function will be assigned to each Intern to plan and execute during the internship. 
  • A wrap-up presentation will be prepared by the Interns to be shared with the Chief Information Officer and other key leaders in the company to outline their accomplishments and experience during the internship.

Responsibilities
  • While a majority of the principal accountabilities are assigned by the intern's direct manager, there is a determined effort across the Bank to make each intern a dynamic part of the team with interesting projects. Accountabilities can and may include areas such as research, analytics, projects, strategy, process review and improvement, as well as technology enhancements and support.
  • Each intern will be assigned a project which will be designed to improve a specific process. A wrap-up presentation will be prepared by the Interns to be shared with the division leader and other key stakeholders in the company to outline their accomplishments and experience during the internship.

Basic Qualifications:
 
Enrolled (during the time of the summer program) as a rising Junior, Senior, or Master's Program at an accredited four year institution, majoring in Information Technology, Information/Cyber Security, Computer Science, Business & Technology Management, Business Administration, MIS, Mathematics, Analytics, or other applicable degree.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week during the duration of the program

  • Interest in learning and/or basic knowledge of Firewall, Proxy, Remote Access, Cloud Security and/or Information Security concepts, methodologies, and processes.
  • Experience with information risk assessment and mitigation concepts, methodologies, processes, and tools
  • Basic understanding of the Cyber Kill Chain
  • You have knowledge in one or more general purpose programming or scripting languages (e.g. JavaScript, Python, Java, C++, PowerShell).
  • Ability to take the initiative and be proactive in all aspects of this position’s listed responsibilities.
  • You love problem-solving and communicating solutions.
  • You are self-motivated and curious.
  • You have previous internship and/or professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and work on multiple assignments concurrently
  • Good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate technical information to a variety of audiences including end-users
  • Ability and willingness to work independently or as part of a team
