Climate Change Specialist

ICF is at the forefront of preparing leading-edge technical and policy analyses, identifying viable market solutions, building real-world management tools, and implementing programs to de-carbonize our economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our team works with all levels of government, multilateral institutions, and commercial clients to develop emissions inventories and carbon footprints; conduct greenhouse gas mitigation policy analyses; develop climate action plans and sustainability strategies; support organizational sustainability; and assess the performance of global programs (e.g., climate funds, multilateral development banks), and identify ways they could improve.

ICF is hiring multiple positions to assist in one or more of the following:
  • Data analysis,
  • Life-cycle assessments, and
  • Energy resiliency planning

Candidates MUST have all the following qualifications
  • Demonstrated interest in climate change or sustainability topics.
  • Comfort performing quantitative analyses and managing and analyzing large datasets.
  • Experience in (industry experience or policy/academic experience) of the following:
  • Climate data and/or atmospheric science knowledge
  • Utility/energy sector (industry experience or policy/academic experience)
  • Life-cycle analysis
  • Greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting and developing GHG reduction scenarios
  • Systems engineering
  • Working with NetCDFs, GeoTIFFs, or CMIP climate projections
  • The ability to use data to help “tell a story” and provide salient information with which our clients can make decisions.
  • Comfort reading and interpreting scientific information.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Either:
  • Master’s Degree & 2+ years of relevant work experience
  • OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree & 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Degrees should be in one of the following subjects: Atmospheric Sciences, Economics, Chemistry, Math, Engineering, Earth Sciences, or related field

These positions will start in Summer 2022, and most will be located in Arlington, VA. Positions focused on energy/utility sectors can also be located in New York City, Cambridge, MA, or Los Angeles.

PLEASE NOTE: We will begin reviewing applications in late January 2022 and expect interviews to start in February 2022.

The duties of a Climate Specialist will entail:
  • Contributing to the vision and execution of projects, including by offering creative solutions to meet client needs.
  • Performing quantitative analyses, and communicating the salient information from those analyses via written reports and presentations.
  • Working in collaborative, small teams to collectively produce high-quality deliverables, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Delegate to, and oversee work of, entry-level staff.
