GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) TECHNICIAN / INTERN - Water Department

DID YOU KNOW? The City of Dubuque has over 1,200 GIS data layers in its main database. These are layers that are used by most GIS users every single day. This number does not include the hundreds of department-specific data layers maintained elsewhere! The GIS Office makes maps and manages geographic information for the City of Dubuque. Anything that has a place is something we can map - hydrants, rental licenses, buildings, and more! The City of Dubuque invites applications for a GIS Technician/Intern in our Water Department. The GIS Technician/Intern will assist Water Department professionals in building, maintaining, modifying and using GIS databases; perform some custom application development and provide user support; create and edit desktop GIS data; transcribe information from hard copy documentation into GIS, create maps for other departments; and collect field data using ArcGIS Online and iPads. Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Desktop or Pro Applications; completion of a minimum of two introductory courses related to GIS (such as ArcGIS I & II); or the equivalent professional experience to the course requirement qualification is required. The successful candidate will possess the ability to follow a management philosophy that is input oriented and values equity, problem solving and the development of partnerships; and the desire to be part of an organization that values service, people, integrity, responsibility, innovation and teamwork. We offer an hourly wage of $14.89. To learn more, please go to: www.cityofdubuque.org/employment.
