Position description
Your career as a Dental Assistant at Mayo Clinic is truly unique. As a specialty dental care assistant within a large medical practice, your dental assistant duties expand beyond the traditional and include complex clinical care, medically integrated care, multidisciplinary clinics and treatments, coaching of resident and fellow trainees, and participation in research initiatives.

Clinical Duties
Each subspecialty practices within their scope and dental assistant clinical duties are specific to each dental specialty. Many Mayo Clinic patients have complex dental needs that cannot be met by other dental practices. Our dental assistants have an important role in each patient's care and are able to utilize their talents and skills to assist challenging and rewarding cases.

Prosthodontics Specialty (area with current opportunity due to growth of practice)
The prosthodontics division specializes in complex restorative, implant restorations, and replacement of teeth. In addition, it supports the subspecialty of maxillofacial prosthodontics and dental oncology, which specializes in the rehabilitation of patients with oral and facial defects due to disease or trauma.

There are multiple specialties in addition to Prosthodontics that include Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Dental Oncology, Periodontics, Orthodontics, Dental Sleep Medicine, Pediatrics to continue to grow your career in the dental field.

Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant program as recognized by the American Dental Associations Commission on Accreditation. Must hold a current Dental Assistant License with Nitrous Oxide certification as recognized by the Minnesota Board of Dentistry as well as hold a Basic Life Support Certification. Expected to maintain continuing education requirements in accordance with guidelines established by the Minnesota Board of Dentistry.

Additional qualifications
Preferred experience with dental specialty care in any of the following specialty practices: Prosthodontics, implant procedures (surgical and/ or restorative), Orthodontics, Periodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, computer skills and knowledge necessary to provide patient database information, digital radiology, patient dental charting and institutional programs. Experience and basic operational computer knowledge are preferred.

License or certification
Must hold a current Dental Assistant License with Nitrous Oxide certification as recognized by the Minnesota Board of Dentistry as well as hold a Basic Life Support Certification.

Schedule details
Schedule details for this position support the clinical practice hours of Monday through Friday 8-5. This position is working 64 hours every two weeks within the clinical practice. Some flexibility of patient care needs may be necessary.
