Project Name: Oregon ECHO Network Equity Assessment

Come work with the Oregon ECHO Network (OEN) and a team of passionate public health professionals who facilitate healthcare knowledge sharing across the state. OEN is housed within the Oregon Rural Practice-based Research Network at Oregon Health and Science University.

ECHO, or Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes, is an all-teach all-learn model that is used in nearly 200 countries around the world. In Oregon, our ECHO training series connect healthcare professionals from around the state. Through videoconferencing, experts share their expertise with other healthcare professionals to improve patient and community health outcomes.

OEN is working to embed equity into our work. We have developed a set of tools, resources, and checks but would like these to be more robust and engrained in our continued work, which the intern will review during their assessment. Existing resources to review in the assessment include: 1) consulting firm equity assessment & findings, 2) OEN Equity Toolkit, 3) DEIAR aspects of OEN Workplan, 4) Accessibility work and documents. During the assessment, the intern may discover additional resources not previously identified. The intern will review and catalogue OEN’s existing DEIAR (internal-facing) and health equity (external-facing) resources and identify gaps and opportunities for OEN to better utilize what we currently have and how to continue using these or new tools to advance our work.

Additionally, you will learn about our work and ORPRN’s broader work. You’ll have the chance to network with healthcare professionals around the state and in a variety of healthcare settings, from hospitals to community-based organizations. You will attend ECHOs to better understand our programming and equity needs.

OEN staff work in office at OHSU’s South Waterfront campus on Mondays. You will be welcome to join us in office on Mondays as your schedule allows, otherwise the position will be remote. Upon successful completing of deliverables and 160 hours of work, the intern will be paid a stipend of $3,000.

Deliverables:

  1. Summary of OEN’s equity work to date
  2. Presentation to OEN team/ORPRN team with summary of recommendations for OEN goals, strategies and monitoring plan. The intern, with guidance from OEN staff, will create slides for OEN and/or ORPRN meetings regarding major findings from the assessment. If they are interested, they can also present these findings at the board meeting. The main areas of interest to note will be major gaps and opportunities for OEN.
  3. Final report with recommendations for goals, strategies and recommendations for monitoring progress over time, as well as maintaining current effective systems. This report may include tools created by the intern to monitor progress.
  4. Additional expected work (not hard deliverables): learn about OEN and ORPRN through one-on-one meetings, distribute materials and collect ideas, give results presentation(s), other work as assigned and identified in collaboration with your preceptor.
