Technical Writer - Rotational Program (Early Career)

To prepare you for an opportunity with the SAS Global Technical Support Division, SAS invests in your curiosity by providing you an intensive technical training program. The Technical Support 12 months program provides training in core SAS technology areas with rotations across various teams. You’ll learn to support SAS software to meet the complex computing and analytic needs of our customers. During the program, key stakeholders provide guidance, coaching and expert feedback. You will also have an opportunity to achieve professional SAS certifications. To enable your successful transition to the Global Technical Support Team, we will provide training and best practices on how to communicate effectively with our customers.   

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develops clear, accurate and concise information assets, following all writing guidelines consistently and effectively. Information assets include usage, programming reference, administration guides, online Help, embedded user assistance, and videos. Writing guidelines include standard rules of grammar, modular writing techniques, content models, and corporate style/editorial guidelines.
  • Describes complex technical subjects in ways that are easy to understand. Develops effective illustrations and other visual aids to clarify complex topics. Develops examples that reflect real-world application of the software product.
  • Organizes and presents information to maximize usability by target personas.
  • Works effectively with product development teams (including software developers, product managers, and technical support analysts) to gather needed inputs, communicate status to all stakeholders, and produce deliverables that meet targets for quality and timeliness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent knowledge of technical writing principles, conventions, and document processes.
  • Excellent project management, research, planning, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely, and to apply standard rules of grammar.
  • Ability to design and organize content.
  • Ability to develop examples of high complexity that demonstrate understanding of software applications and business domains.
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to perform software installs appropriate to assignments.
  • Ability to use productivity software tools effectively.
  • Ability to work as a team member; ability to serve as an expert in a field or technical or business domain.
  • Good organizational and creative problem-solving skills.

 

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Technical Writing, Economics, Business, Education, Communications, English, or similar.  
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills, analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with users with various technical backgrounds. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Public speaking experience such as presenting papers or classroom teaching.
  • Experience with hardware environments supported by SAS software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project and/or internship experience demonstrating individual and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience programming with the SAS language.
