Gap Year Medical Assistant, Dermatology
A medical assistant serves both clinical and administrative functions to support the practice and serve the patient population. The chief responsibility of an individual in this role is to ensure the delivery of patient services under the direction of the care team. A medical assistant is expected to serve in the following capacities:
- Managing patient care by: preparing patients for examination, assisting providers in procedures, collecting specimens for processing, taking medical history, performing suture removals, counseling patients about treatment regimens and post procedure care, and processing prior-authorizations. Applicants should be able to handle blood and surgical procedures.
- Executing administrative tasks such as: reception of phone calls for scheduling appointments and patient inquiries, completing check in and check out registration for patients, processing referrals, scanning paperwork into the electronic medical record.
- Physician mentoring with the goal of assisting medical assistants in gaining admission to medical school
Key Qualities
- MUST have graduated undergraduate school by the start date of our program.
- MUST be pre-med or pre-PA.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Operates well in a team setting and communicates effectively and efficiently with patient population.
- Motivation and interest in learning new tasks.
- Organizational inclination with strong attention to detail.
- Professional demeanor and sense of maturity in handling responsibilities.
- Strong computer skills.
- Willingness to contribute to team efforts and versatility in adopting additional responsibilities or pivoting tasks to best serve the interests of the practice and patients.
- Flexible and adaptable, willing to assist when and where they are needed.
Currently we are seeking applicants for 2 years from May 2025-June 30, 2027.
We also have opportunities for seniors graduating early who are interested in starting now, versus our usual hiring cycle.
