Index Client Champion Intern

June - August 2021 • Rockville, MD

What I liked

The corporate environment was friendly, organized, caring, always open and supportive to intern's ideas. The organization assigned me a buddy with whom I was huddling and introduced me to the employee Network in which I built new relationships with so many interns around the world with diverse educational background and senior leaders. In addition, there are diversity clubs. I joined GLOBE which stands for Global Link Organization Black Employee. My manager was the most supportive from day one until the end. Moreover, I was able to meet my chain of command , the VP of the Global index, The VP of Index Intelligence and the CEO. On the practical side, I was exposed to technical softwares such as Bloomberg, Factset, Tableau, Excel which supported my training education in the financial market ,dealing with clients, the company's index business , and different financial products from different teams within the organization. This internship helped me how to be a leader, take accountability, deal with risks, lead with integrity, fuel client success, play as a team, expand my expertise, and drive innovation through forward thinking.

What I wish was different

Obviously, Covid 19 brought disruption and there were less physical interactions with peers. Most of the office was empty. I wish it could have been different and meet more Nasdaq employee.

Advice

Everyday when you step foot in office be the best version of yourself and ask yourself what can I bring to the table today. The mindset shouldn't be focused on collecting your paycheck but contributing to the grand success scheme of the company. Communication is key and have a specific goal and communicate it to your manager. He or she will be able to identify what is best for you moving forward. Express your ideas and make sure you speak with knowledge backed by data. Do not be afraid of conflict ( agree to disagree and express why)

What I liked

Great internship program! Despite it being a remote internship due to Covid, Nasdaq was able to pivot quickly and put together a great online experience. Great experience working with a project from start to end.

What I wish was different

I wish it would’ve been possible to be in person, but this was due to Covid and out of NASDAQ’s control.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to reach out to anyone and ask questions or to simply meet for a virtual chat.

Global Benefits and Talent Acquisition Intern

May - September 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed that I was apart of the team and actually helping on projects that would directly benefit the company instead of just doing busy work.

What I wish was different

Really not much it was a great experience. I wish I got a little more experience in Talent Acquisition but time was short.

Advice

Have an open mind and enter like you know nothing. Ask many questions because even though you are in college and think you can do anything and everything chances are you can’t. Ego will be a lot of people undoing. Humility comes quick.

Global Trading and Market Services Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed the fast-paced collaborative environment I worked in. In addition, I was given a tremendous amount of responsibility as the summer progressed.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been given more pre-internship resources to prepare for the role. US equity markets are a very complex space, and reading materials for beforehand would have been very helpful.

Advice

Work hard and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Java Developer Intern

June - August 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

The culture at Nasdaq was fantastic. It was all that I wished for in a company and fulfilled my needs beyond my expectations. I appreciated my employees, my boss, and the people that allowed me to excel in my work in every facet.

What I wish was different

One thing I wish had been different is working closer to home. I live in New Jersey and applied for the Nasdaq in New York as well as Philadelphia. The interview, offer, and internship took place in Denver, Colorado which was a new experience, yet I had wished to be in one of the branches closer to home to allow for an easier time in acclimating to the work-life for 10 weeks.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience would be to be very outgoing and eager to ask questions. The more you ask questions, the more people will appreciate your willingness to learn and your eagerness to be better.

Global Events Intern

May - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Nasdaq offered a unique culture that valued growth and mind-share. My team was very friendly and I became very close with all of them! The program also offered exposure to different teams around the company. We had weekly lunch and learns, where we had the ability to virtually connect with a leader from a different team to learn about what they do for Nasdaq, and how the company works.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to work there! They gave me a really heavy work load and near the end of my internship I didn't have enough time to finish all of the projects they were giving me. I also wish they could be a bit more transparent about return offers. I had to really dig around to find out that my offer letter is pending, due to budget.

Advice

Never conform to what you think is the level of work you *should* be doing. Nasdaq is all about high achievers, everyone is at the top of their game. You should always strive to have a work quality that is above and beyond, you should anticipate what needs to be done and do it before being asked. And have fun! Everyone is super friendly and you should feel comfortable being yourself.
