Everyone was very easy going and collaborative. The team environment was wonderful and I learned a lot. I was using some of the top accounting software in the industry.

I truly loved the experience.

Advice

If you don't understand, ask questions, but keep personal notes on how to prepare the different types of returns for reference. This helps keep you from asking the same question twice.

What I liked

During my internship at BDO I was able to connect with people, not only on a professional level, but also on a personal level. The people at BDO were willing to take the time to get to know me, while keeping a good work environment. In regards to the work, I chose audit - which has its challenges. However, I was able to successfully complete my internship, leading into a full time offer with the firm.

What I wish was different

The one thing I wish was different would be the duration of the internship. I wish the internship would have lasted longer because I thoroughly enjoyed the work I was doing, alongside the people who worked there.

Be yourself, ask questions, and don't be afraid to stand out.

What I liked

I had the opportunity to work on clients in different industries and experience hands on audit field work. The office was smaller so there was a lot of interaction with employees and partners. I was never afraid to ask questions and there were many social events to immerse us in the culture of the firm.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions if you get stuck or unsure how to do a task. Always look for more work as it shows your eagerness to learn.

- I got to go to different clients to perform audit procedures - Training in Chicago for a week is useful and fun - I was given a large amount of responsibility - The work was not repetitive at all

- I wish there was more feedback from management on what I should work on and what I was doing well

- Learn quickly! So many different tasks or procedures have to be done, you will rarely do the same thing twice

I liked working at a large partnership that took care of their employees. Everyone was nice and wanted to make sure everyone had everything they needed to get the job done.

I wish I was taught more technical skills, at times I felt like I was just doing meticulous things and wasn't learning beneficial skills.

Don't be afraid to ask your boss to explain something more in-depth for you. It's best to understand what you're doing fully so you can do it to the best of your ability.
