IT Audit & Assurance Intern

I loved all of the industry experience I got throughout my internship. I got to work with several different clients across a wide array of industries which gave me valuable exposure that I wouldn't have gotten at another internship.
What I wish was different
I honestly don't wish anything had been different. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life!

Learn as much as you can and ask as many questions as possible. The internship is what you make out of it. Take advantage of every possible opportunity available to you, because the time really does fly!

Audit Intern
January - March 2017 • Chicago, IL
What I liked
It was an amazing company with tons of resources.
What I wish was different
The culture of the company is very intense, and the busy season hours do not allow much flexibility. There is a serious lack of work/life balance.
Advice
Always ask for feedback on every task/project you are assigned to and be transparent when you don't understand or need help with something.

Audit Intern
June - August 2016 • Chicago, IL
What I liked
It is an amazing learning experience. You are expected to know the basic foundations of accounting (what you are taught in class at DePaul), but not how to actually perform an audit. This is beneficial because as long as you have the academic knowledge, all of the seniors and associates will guide you through what you need to know. As such, it is an incredible learning experience and it is up to you to determine how much you can absorb.
What I wish was different
I wouldn't change anything.
Advice
Network as much as possible. You can be the best at doing your job, but if you don't go to any happy hours, success dinners, outings etc, nobody will know your name or who you are. This becomes a problem down the line when engagement teams are selecting new hires or even when you are up for a promotion. It never hurts to build your network.

Kpmg Audit Intern
June - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA
What I liked
The people I worked alongside were extremely helpful and encouraging. They answered all my questions regarding the specific tasks and in general about their own careers. I would love to work with that team again.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have been more proficient in my excel knowledge as I ended up using that resource a lot in my work. I think I could've been a lot more efficient had I had better training with it before hand.
Advice
I would say don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for feedback. During any internship or job you might feel as though you should enter knowing most of the stuff but the reality is that you will learn most of the information on the job. It is extremely for both the intern and the employer to encourage feedback for a more effective experience.
